Hey lovely, I’m Sheree
Wife, proud mum, writer here at Organised Chic, mad creative and mama to a cheeky little Cavoodle, Teddy, who thinks he owns the place! (yes, he probably does!)
My story, going from an overwhelmed mum to Organised Chic…
18 years ago, we had just moved into a little country home. My hubby, our 4-year-old son, 2 cats, our dog and some goldfish. If we didn’t already have enough pets, we added a pony and some chickens just to make life a little more hectic and a little less organised.
The new place was half the size of our previous home and had absolutely no storage, and I really do mean none. We had an old detached garage that was barely habitable for the car. The only cupboards in the house were a few basic under-bench ones in the kitchen (no pantry) and a tiny vanity in the only bathroom. That was it; every other room was a blank space. As a result, shortly after moving in, I suddenly realised, “Oh heck, where am I going to put all this stuff!”
After about a year of feeling like I was drowning in the sheer amount of all our belongings, side note, way too many toys! I came across a book in the local store about decluttering and organising your home. At the time, this was a totally new concept for me. I just did the best I could every day, making the most of our situation. I certainly had no idea that people used a specific method to create order in their homes, let alone wrote books about it.
Simplicity involves identifying the essential and removing the rest.
Generally, I would consider myself a fairly organised person by nature. I thrive when everything is in order. I’ve always been obsessed with lists and planning. To this day, I continue to write lists and plan all the time.
Somewhere along the line of becoming a mum and having a little human around, I lost control of our home. Toys and children’s belongings were my biggest nemesis. I’m also a very sentimental person. That is to say, I felt a need to hang onto everything. Everything had meaning, with memories attached and a special quality that made it feel significant in some way. Add to this my love of craft and creativity, and you start to see how my mountain of stuff grew so quickly.
When I got home from the bookstore with my new book in hand, I found a quiet spot on the patio and started reading. Let me tell you, I was instantly hooked. I devoured the book, every page front to back in the space of the afternoon. I even had a little notebook so I could make notes. And that was when my true passion for home organising was born.
Organising is a journey, not a destination
Since then, it has been a way of life for me. I love to be organised. For me, it creates a sense of calm, and along the road, I discovered my love for home styling. Creating beautiful spaces in which to enjoy time spent with family and friends.
I learnt early on that no amount of organising or styling will create the home you desire and need if you don’t first address the issue of clutter. It’s essential to reduce the number of items you allow into your home. Everything should earn its place in your home. If it’s not something you truly love, need or use, then let it go to someone who will value it more than you do.
Each home is different in its own way. However, just a few simple methods for decluttering can go a long way to managing the excess that always manages to creep in. Maintaining your home with effective organising systems helps manage the day-to-day a little more easily. Mix in a little home styling and a touch of your unique personality, and you’re on your way to living in a beautifully organised home you love.
Small steps done repeatedly lead to big results
Organised Chic came to be through my love of organising, combined with my creative writing pursuits. Born through my love of books. In thanks to my beautiful Grandmother May, who taught me the love of written words on the page.
Along the way, I have worked in the home organising world. Assisting clients through the process of packing and moving into new homes. Setting up their new spaces, decluttering and home styling. My focus now is my writing and my newly found passion for creating digital printable products. Solutions to aid the processes of decluttering, organising, styling, planning and wellbeing.
I intend to share what I’ve learnt over almost 2 decades. To share my knowledge, ideas and methods for creating an organised home free from clutter. Providing printable checklists, worksheets, and more to keep home and life as clutter-free and organised as possible. In the hope that I may help you on your journey to a beautifully organised home you love.
“If everything is special, than nothing is special”
Declutter – Organise – Style
Life gets busy! These days, we have so many obligations demanding our time. Having systems in place that work easily and seamlessly will keep your home organised. This frees up time to spend on the important things in life. For instance, family, friends, hobbies and adventure. Make your home a sanctuary from the outside world, a special place to escape with the people you treasure the most. Your home is an expression of who you are.
First, we must declutter…
Firstly, as I mentioned above, no amount of organising will solve the problem of a messy, unorganised home if you don’t reduce the number of items in your home by decluttering. Meanwhile, it’s easy to get caught up in buying more storage and pretty baskets. But essentially, you are just moving the clutter around. As Courtney Carver once said, “If it were as simple as organising, don’t you think you would be done by now?”
Starting with the Declutter Your Home section will provide you with practical processes to declutter and clean your home. Create a plan of action and work out where to start in the decluttering process. Use checklists, implement routines and find practical storage options to create a calm and clutter-free home. Identify what you do and don’t need and get rid of the excess so you can truly enjoy the possessions that matter most to you.
Let’s get organised…
You’ve attacked the excess clutter and got it out of your home. Now it’s time to implement some effective organising systems. The Organise Your Home section provides information to organise all areas of the home. Organise room by room, discover ways to bring organisation into all areas of home and life and implement a household management system to keep things running smoothly.
Creating routines that will make it easier to stay on top of daily chores. Examine ways to tackle paper clutter while setting up routines for budgeting and bill paying. Make preparing meals a breeze with meal planning methods that work.
Now, the fun part, home styling…
Now for the fun part. You have decluttered your home and removed all the excess that was weighing you down. You have implemented new systems to keep things organised and efficient. You’ve done the hard work and can therefore start expressing your style and creating beautiful spaces.
Styling our homes is a great way to express who we are and what we like as individuals. Creating a space that truly belongs to us can evoke a sense of joy every time we walk into the room. It’s the little touches that add to the ambience of a space and set it apart as our own.
Likewise, decor and styling can set the mood for each room. Such as a quiet corner to curl up with a book or turning a boring office into an elegant workspace.
Something as simple as the way we make the bed, the items placed on the kitchen bench or how we arrange the books in the bookshelf can change the overall appearance of a room. Furthermore, the Style Your Home section will provide you with plenty of styling inspiration. Plus many easy and free ways to improve the overall style of your home. Styling is something that can be learned, and certainly anyone can give it a go.
In conclusion, clutter didn’t just happen overnight, and a beautifully organised home won’t either. But if you’re ready for change, I’m right here with you on your journey. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get started.
